Welcome Back to School
Welcome back to school! We've made some important changes over the summer. As you can tell by the chatter at the school, new technology has been installed and is being used by the teachers and students. New Students have joined our family, new faces in the front office to service you and the school, and new teachers too.
“Our kindergarten team is growing! We have added three new kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Alexia Papadatos, Mrs. Marta Sigurdson, and Mrs. Rossana Gracial who will support a dynamic kindergarten team with Mrs. Moreno. Ms. Papadatos is an experienced Carden teacher having taught kindergarten and first grades for over eight years and will be a wonderful addition to our school”, stated Mrs. Cathy Edwards, Head of School. “Mrs. Sigurdson, is an experienced Carden teacher and has a strong background here at Carden Arbor View School and Carden of the Foothills in Monrovia; and Mrs. Gracial was a former teacher with Azusa Unified School District and Foothill Country Day School. We are very proud of our faculty members, who are selected from among the finest in the country. They are knowledgeable professionals, diverse in their experiences and backgrounds, and dedicated to helping students to attain the love of learning and an appreciation of self and others via the Carden philosophy. They are the main reason that CAVS enjoys its strong reputation and will celebrate providing over 29 years of educational excellence this year.”
“We have also made some changes to the face of our front office adding on a new School Services Coordinator, Ms. Christina Panos and a new Director of Development, Ms. Terri DiMarco. Ms. Panos is a former CAVS teacher and has five years of teaching experience and six years of business acumen in the area of marketing, promotions, writing and publishing. Ms. DiMarco joined CAVS in mid-July and has an extensive background in marketing, media relations, fundraising and development. These changes will support our school in increasing the use of technology to become a more “green” school, and further developing communications with our school families and community,” stated Mrs. Edwards.
Many years ago, Mae Carden published an article entitled, “A New Purpose in Teaching” in which she identified the value of preparing students for life. The purpose, she stressed, was not to raise spectators, but, to equip children to think, to reason, and to actively participate in acquiring an education; thus equipping them with the tools they will need to move happily and successfully though life.
There is a new shift in the education paradigm. Public school reform, “No Child Left Behind” has schools focused on high stakes testing as a means of reaching purpose in education.
There is a need to caution parents to avoid pushing their children to simply get an edge. At Carden, we teach parents about the importance of educating the “whole” child. By facilitating a learning environment which challenges students to participate, collaborate, think and reason, we are achieving our purpose as a school, preparing children for life.
Carden Arbor View School (CAVS) is committed to providing an excellent education and being an exemplary Carden school for school age children Kindergarten-8th grade. CAVS provides small class size, foreign language-French, Latin and Spanish, focused learning for math, science and technical skills, arts, music and intramural sports, and exciting educational trips. The school offers before and after school childcare and an afternoon tutoring program. In pursuit of this vision, Carden Arbor View School provides a well-trained and dedicated staff ensuring a strong academic foundation utilizing the Carden Educational Program. We offer our families a collaborative atmosphere that prepares the whole child for life. Within our state-of-the-art learning environment, we afford students our diverse community the ability to reach their highest potential.
