Parent Participation Program

Room Parent Ambassador Coordinator 
The Room Parent Ambassador Coordinator act as a liaison between new families, current families, and school administration. They oversee the school’s Room Parent Ambassador Program. The Room Parent Ambassador Coordinator is responsible for conducting an orientation and seven monthly meetings with Room Parent Ambassadors. The coordinator is responsible for sharing pertinent CAVS information with the Room Parent Ambassadors. The coordinator also acts as a liaison between the Fall Carnival and CAPER Chairpersons in organizing Fall Carnival booths and CAPER class projects with the Room Parents Ambassadors.

CAVS Room Parent Ambassadors
CAVS Room Parent Ambassadors serve as liaisons of the school within the internal and external school communities. Their primary role includes:

1. Welcoming and supporting new families to Carden by providing ongoing information, including: include sending out introduction letters to new families,
2. Work with teachers and the Room Parent Ambassador Coordinator to share information with all assigned families. 
3. Organize Fall Carnival class booths and CAPER donation projects.

4. Participate in events to expand the surrounding community’s awareness of the school.

5. Attending meetings throughout the year to maintain the most current communication regarding school events and programs.

Participation in the room parent ambassador program is voluntary. All parents are encouraged to become room parent ambassadors.

Parents who wish to volunteer as a Board Committee Member are expected to be active on one of the standing committees of the Board of Trustees (Advancement, Finance, and Risk Management, Safety and Facilities, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging). Board committees typically meet bimonthly throughout the school year.

Advancement Committee
Committee members work closely with the Head of School to assist in creating strategies for fundraising, marketing, and event planning for the school. The Advancement Committee uses event committees for community event planning.

• CAPER Chair (Celebrating Achievement, Perseverance, Excellence, and Responsibility)
  Is responsible for planning and organizing the annual CAPER dinner, dance, and auction in conjunction with the Head of School. The Chair serves on the Advancement Committee and attends meetings as required.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee (DEIB)
The primary purpose of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee is to support the school’s DEIB statement by identifying ways to engage the community in learning about and appreciating each other’s backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. The committee works to ensure that we have a community in which individuals feel empowered to share and celebrate their respective backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee monitors the fiscal health of the school by reviewing financial statements on a bimonthly basis. The committee assists the Director of Business Services in the creation of budgets, reviews the investment portfolio, assists with long range financial planning, and provides recommendations to the Board.

Risk Management, Safety, and Facilities Committee
This committee evaluates safety issues and concerns and assesses the risk exposure of the school. Members will oversee and monitor the fire, earthquake, and disaster plans and make recommendations to the Board to help reduce liability through school policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include reviewing the needs of the facilities and grounds for repairs, supporting the development of safety policies, reviewing forms and agreements for accuracy and compliance, and providing feedback to the Board.

AVAF Chairperson (Arbor View Annual Fund)
AVAF Chairperson works with the Head of School to organize activities that promote the AVAF campaign to the community, both internally and externally.

CAPER (Celebrating Achievement, Perseverance, Excellence, and Responsibility)
Our annual fundraising event invites community members 21+ to enjoy a theme-filled evening with dinner and dancing. 

• CAPER Chair - Responsible for planning and organizing the annual CAPER dinner, dance, and auction in conjunction with the Advancement Committee and attends meetings as required, oversees event operations and budget.
• CAPER Committee Member - Responsible for event planning, soliciting auction items, coordinating grade-level baskets with the Room Parents, and enlisting parent volunteers as needed.
• CAPER Day-of Volunteer - Works with the CAPER Chair and committee members to organize and delegate responsibilities for event set up, operation, and clean up as needed.

Throughout the year, event committees meet to lend support for non-curriculum activities which foster social interaction among the internal community at CAVS. As committees are formed, announcements of meeting times will be made to allow for parent and community participation. Event committees begin meeting prior to their respective event date to facilitate planning and implementation, with meeting frequency typically increasing closer to the event date.

Fall Gala
All Carden Arbor View School families, new and returning, are invited to celebrate the start of a new school year at this cheerful event in September.

• Fall Gala Coordinator - Works with the Room Parents, and committee members to plan the event, recruits committee members and volunteers, and oversees event operations and budget.
• Fall Gala Committee Member - Plans the night’s theme, coordinates the entertainment, and solicits volunteers as needed.
• Fall Gala Day-of Volunteer - Works with the Fall Gala Coordinator and committee members to organize and delegate responsibilities for event set up, operation, and clean up as needed.

Fall Carnival
The entire community is invited to enjoy activity booths with tricks and treats. The carnival is typically held in the afternoon on Halloween, or the Friday before if the holiday falls on a weekend.

• Fall Carnival Coordinator - Works with Room Parents and staff members to plan the event, recruits committee members and volunteers, and oversees event operations and budget.
• Fall Carnival Committee Member - Works with Room Parents in planning and designing their respective grade level's game booth(s), obtaining supplies, and soliciting parent volunteers to staff each booth during the event.
• Fall Carnival Day-of Volunteer - Works with the Fall Carnival Coordinator and committee members to organize and delegate responsibilities for event set up, operation, and clean up as needed.

Book Fair
Preceding our Family Day event in the spring, the annual book fair will take place on campus over the span of one week. Committee members are expected to meet for planning in February and solicit parent volunteers to operate and stock the book fair.

• Book Fair Coordinator - Works with the school to facilitate a week-long book fair, solicits volunteers, and staffs the fair as needed.
• Book Fair Volunteer - Supports the Book Fair Coordinator to set-up, and take down the Book Fair. Day-Of Volunteers operate and stock the book fair during assigned time slots throughout the week.
