Who We Are
An independent K–8 school rooted in the Carden Method since 1981.
Carden Arbor View weaves Mae Carden’s three R’s — reason, respect, and responsibility — into a strong academic foundation, delivered by caring professionals devoted to educating the whole child.

About CAVS
A Foundation for a Lifetime of Learning
Since 1981, Carden Arbor View School has served students in kindergarten through eighth grade as an independent, private, non-sectarian school — one of more than 80 nationwide using Mae Carden’s methods.
Our proven curriculum reaches well beyond the core subjects to include art, music, computer science, world languages, life skills, physical education, and motor development. We discourage pressure and rivalry, fostering individual growth, dignity, and independence — and we treasure the partnership we build with every family.
What Drives Us
Our Mission, Philosophy & Vision
Mission
To provide the highest-quality education of the whole child using the Carden curriculum and philosophy — to educate with joy, growth, enthusiasm, dignity, and respect.
Philosophy
An education devoted to the Carden Method and directed to the whole child — infusing individuality with dignity, self-reliance, and compassion. Students build stamina and self-confidence through disciplined effort and a respect for hard work.
Vision
To be an exemplary Carden school: a well-trained staff, a strong academic foundation, and a collaborative, diverse community where every student can reach their highest potential.
Our Commitments
Community & Character
At Carden Arbor View School, we believe every student should gain a deeper understanding of and respect for other people and perspectives, graduating fully prepared to engage thoughtfully with the wider world.
We are committed to a school community where every child and family feels safe, welcomed, valued, and respected — held to the same high standard of kindness, character, and mutual respect, so that each student knows they truly belong here.

Accreditation
Recognized for Educational Excellence
Carden Arbor View School is accredited by the Carden Educational Foundation — the steward of the Carden Method, ensuring fidelity to Mae Carden’s curriculum and philosophy — the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), where CAVS was first accredited in 1994–95, and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
In August 2024, after an extensive evaluation of the visiting committee’s report, CAVS was awarded seven-year accreditation status by the CAIS Elementary Board of Standards and Board of Directors — the longest term CAIS grants.
The Board of Standards praised our program for its strong alignment with the school’s core values and mission, and the remarkable commitment of our teachers to nurturing strong citizenship and academic excellence.
